Nicole Burdick | Chief Executive Officer

Nicole Burdick is a seasoned nonprofit professional with over 17 years of experience guiding youth-serving organizations with purpose, compassion, and a commitment to achieving meaningful impact. Prior to joining the Boys & Girls Club of the Black Hills, she served as Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Black Hills (BBBSBH).

Nicole’s journey with BBBSBH began in 2008 as Vice President of Programs, where she led the development and evaluation of mentoring initiatives tailored to both national best practices and the unique needs of the local community. Her approach emphasized program quality, measurable outcomes, and long-term relationships that make a difference.

In 2014, she stepped into the role of Executive Director. Under her guidance, the organization experienced a period of transformative growth, most notably in philanthropic support, with overall contributions increasing nearly fourfold. This growth supported the expansion of the Donor-Designated Endowment and the creation of a substantial Quasi-Endowment, helping to ensure long-term sustainability.

Her leadership is rooted in the values of kindness, intentionality, inclusion, and authenticity. She brings both heart and strategy to her work, grounded in a strong belief in the power of belonging.

She is a proud graduate of the SD CEO Women in Leadership program and was honored to attend the prestigious Air War College National Security Forum as a civilian participant

Lorelei Ball | Director of Operations

My name is Lorelei Ball, and I am the Director of Operation for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Black Hills. Growing up as one of fourteen children, having three children of my own, and over 100 nieces and nephews, I am no stranger to caring for and mentoring children. I owned and operated a daycare for 7 years. For the last 12 years, I have worked for two surgeons managing their surgical staff while caring for patients and coordinating treatment. Helping to make a safe and happy place for children and young adults is very important to me and I am excited to be working in a field where I have a chance to make a difference. When not at the clubs, I enjoy reading, a good movie, having fun with my grandchildren, children, and their partners, and cooking for friends and family. I am looking forward to meeting new people and helping to grow the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hill City, Lead, and Hot Springs SD.

Roni Prautzsch | Director of Programming and Impact

Hi! My name is Roni and I’ve been with the Club since 2012. I have a passion for helping youth grow and encouraging them to be themselves and have fun! I bring a lot of international experience in youth programs and have a diverse career background. I enjoy pulling programs together to introduce to the youth. Creating successful programming is my goal.

Staff know her as the program guru, and the kids affectionately call her a “crazy science freak.” Stop by the Club and you might find Roni in her lab coat exploding things at science club or rocking out in the Teen Center. You can always count on Roni!

Harley Cormany | Hill City Club Director

Harley Cormany is the Club Director for the Boys & Girls Club of Hill City. Growing up in a small town in eastern South Dakota, Harley developed a strong sense of community and a passion for helping others. After spending time in the local after-school program, Harley knew she wanted to work with children and create a safe, fun, and welcoming space for kids to learn and grow. This early experience shaped her path toward a career dedicated to supporting youth and families. Harley earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies and completed her practicum at the Boys and Girls Club of the Black Hills. There, she gained hands-on experience working with children, planning engaging activities, and fostering a positive environment. Guided by compassion and dedication, Harley strives to make a lasting difference in the lives of kids by providing them with encouragement, stability, and a place to belong.

Mattelyn Montoya | Hot Springs Club Director

Hello, I am Mattelyn, the Club Director for The Boys & Girls Club of Hot Springs. My husband, our 4 children, and I moved to South Dakota in 2023 from Kyle, Texas, where we lived our entire lives. We wanted to be closer to family and enjoy all that is offered outdoors here. Back in Texas, my husband and I had a successful tattoo, piercing, and permanent make-up studio, where we apprenticed aspiring artists helping them to achieve their artistic abilities. We decided to bring our passion here. Little did we know, so much more was in store. With over 20 years of experience in childcare, my number one passion will always be looking after our youth! With this and my love for art, I am so excited for all that is to come.

Kate Walles | Lead-Deadwood Club Director

My name is Kate, and I am the Club Director for The Boys & Girls Club of Lead. In 2020, my family and I relocated to South Dakota from Oklahoma City, where I was stationed with the Air National Guard. Our move was driven by a desire to be closer to family and provide our children with the opportunity to grow up alongside their cousins. I bring over 16 years of experience in childcare and youth development, along with a background in organizing curriculum for youth in larger organizations. Our family is passionate about the outdoors and cherishes the time we spend together. We feel incredibly fortunate to call South Dakota our home, and I am thrilled to be part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Black Hills. I look forward to working with the Lead community to provide a safe, enriching, and engaging environment for our youth.
